We have lost a giant of the profession, but Albert Krieger’s legacy of devotion to the Sixth Amendment right to counsel will inspire generations.

On May 14th, 2020, NACDL Past President and recipient of two of NACDL's highest honors, the Robert C. Heeney Memorial Award given annually to the one criminal defense attorney who best exemplifies the goals and values of the Association and the legal profession and NACDL’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Albert J. Krieger passed away in Miami, Florida. To honor the wishes of his family and to ensure that his memory and his example will live on, a fund was established at the NACDL Foundation for Criminal Justice (NFCJ) in his name.
Through his eloquence, his integrity, his dignity and his example, he transformed a nascent group of dreamers into an organization respected by every branch of government, whose briefs are routinely cited in Supreme Court opinions and whose members command the respect of the entire profession and the public.

The NFCJ is a not-for-profit corporation and contributions made in his memory are tax deductible. In addition, the NFCJ is eligible to receive contributions through foundation grants and donor advised funds. Donations may be made through this site below.
