Washington, DC (May 27, 2009) – The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Norman Reimer, Executive Director, is pleased to announce that attorney Shana-Tara Regon has joined the association’s national office as Director of White Collar Crime Policy.
The White Collar Crime Policy Department researches and monitors federal and state issues such as over-regulation and overcriminalization, and erosion of the attorney-client privilege. As the staff liaison to NACDL’s White Collar Crime Committee, Ms. Regon’s duties include preparing legislative testimony, leading public awareness initiatives and development of specialized continuing legal education programs for the legal and business communities.
Ms. Regon, formerly of Shipman & Goodwin LLP, Hartford, CT, has represented individual and corporate clients in state and federal civil and criminal investigations. She is a member of the bars of Connecticut and Massachusetts and is admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She has represented clients facing a variety of criminal charges including fraud, public corruption, RICO, tax fraud, espionage, felony escape, criminal harassment and assault; and in civil matters such as Qui Tam, Freedom of Information Act and unfair trade practices. She has also served as pro bono immigration counsel for political refugees seeking asylum.
She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Western New England College of Law. She also holds a Master of Fine Arts in fiction writing from the University of New Orleans and a B.A. in English from Sweet Briar College. Following law school, she clerked for Justice Joette Katz of the Connecticut Supreme Court.
Her memberships include the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the American Bar Association (Criminal Justice Section, White Collar Crime Committee), the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Connecticut Bar Association and is a former president of the District of Connecticut Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
