Washington, DC (Sept. 17, 2011) -- As the fourth execution date looms for Troy Davis, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyer again appeals to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole to halt the execution Mr. Davis. In 2007, the Board said it would not allow an execution to proceed if there “was any doubt” as to the guilt of a prisoner. Evidence adduced at his 2010 hearing underscores the reality that there is far too much doubt surrounding Mr. Davis’s guilt to allow his execution.
NACDL President Lisa Wayne issued the following statement: “NACDL again joins the hundreds of thousands of people and organizations who are urging the Georgia Board of Parole and Pardons to halt Mr. Davis’ impending execution. For the reasons stated in NACDL’s August 2007 resolution of the Board of Directors, and substantial doubts raised at Mr. Davis’ 2010 evidentiary hearing, there is simply too much doubt surrounding this case and therefore a grave risk that an unjust execution will occur.”
