Jody Kent Lavy Receives Champion of State Criminal Justice Reform Award from Nation’s Criminal Defense Bar -- Washington, DC (Aug. 6, 2019) – On Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, Jody Kent Lavy—Executive Director of the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth (CFSY)—was presented with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ (NACDL) Champion of State Criminal Justice Reform Award at NACDL's 18th Annual State Criminal Justice Network (SCJN) conference in Philadelphia, PA.

The Champion of Public Defense Award recognizes an individual or group for exceptional efforts in making positive changes to a local, county, state, or federal public defense system. Although the outstanding direct, individual representation of every defendant is one of NACDL's foremost goals, this award is intended to highlight efforts toward systemic advances through legislation, litigation, or other strategies.

The Staff Attorney will respond to requests for assistance from criminal defense lawyers, advising on and litigating ground-breaking Fourth Amendment issues in federal and state cases. The Staff Attorney will also create resources for the defense bar and conduct trainings for defense lawyers around the country in order to equip them with the tools and assistance that are essential to ensure that Fourth Amendment case law evolves with technology. The Staff Attorney will collaborate with team members to identify and litigate key cases to shape Fourth Amendment privacy rights in the digital age
The Web Developer will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of web designs and code for NACDL web properties. Under the direction of the Director of Digital Strategies, this position will work with internal stakeholders to determine requirements and develop new ideas for features. This is a grant funded position.
NACDL's Fourth Amendment Center offers direct assistance to defense lawyers handling cases involving new surveillance tools, technologies and tactics that infringe on the constitutional rights of people in America. The Center is available to help members of the defense bar in bringing new Fourth Amendment challenges, providing a range of support: from training and resources to expert consultation and direct litigation, all free of charge.
